Olympus Has Fallen..Movie Review by Jamila Watkins

Olympus has fallen

Olympus has fallen

Last Tuesday night I had the opportunity to catch a sneak peek of the newest blockbuster film, “Olympus Has Fallen” by acclaimed director, Antoine Fuqua.  The event was sponsored by Black celebrity and entertainment website, Bossip.com and was held at the Screening Room, a 70 seat private theater in the luxurious Bryant Park Hotel in Manhattan.   I was among a bunch the who’s who  from a number of lifestyle, entertainment and social media outlets.  We munched on popcorn and sipped on MYX Moscato as we settled in for the movie.

The next hour and forty minutes was a cinematic thrill ride full of suspense, action and patriotic heroism.  The cast was an ensemble of A-listers, including Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, Aaron Eckhart and Ashley Judd.  Asian-American superstar, Rick Yune, plays the bad guy: a terrorist that has infiltrated the White House and creates a national security super storm by kidnapping the President.   This action-packed roller-coaster film kept me at the edge of my seat.   The theater erupted in cheers and jeers at the screen as the plot thickened and the story line got more and more intense.  Just when you think all is well and you can take a breath, it takes off all over again and you find yourself grabbing the chair in front of you just to hold on.  It draws you in.  My heart actually sank to see the American flag riddled with bullets after the firefight to save the White House ends and the audience is left uncertain of the nation’s future.

But all’s well that ends well.  No spoiler alerts here.  You’ll have to check it out yourself.  Be advised of the level of violence and leave the kids at home for this one.  As a fan of comedic films and dramas, I didn’t expect to like an action film such as this, but I did!  I’m not saying to make it a part of your next Girls Night Out, but you’ll definitely be in for a fun time, whether it’s on a dinner and movie date with your beau, or a matinee getaway, head to see one on the big screen soon.  It’s not one to miss!

Special thanks to Jamila for doing this review for Curvaciously Yours, while I was away on a business trip in Orlando, Florida. Love ya girl.
